Customizing only a few translation strings

The terminology used in LCM tries to be as neutral as possible, but this is not always possible and may be at times too confusing for some users. For example, you may wish to display “advisor” instead of “user”, “matters” instead of “cases”, etc. This is possible to do without modifying the main translation file, which is updated with new each version of LCM.

The perso.php file

Using the same format as the main translation files, which are located in inc/lang/lcm_XX.php, create a new file in inc/config/ named perso.php.

For example:

There, we have just renamed “cases” to “matters”, at least in the navigation menu. You will still have to extract most strings mentioning the word “case” in them, and yes, this may unfortunately be quite alot of work.

It is important to note two things:
- Never leave a blank line before or after the <?php ... ?> tags, or LCM will display a cryptic “headers already sent” error.
- Each line end with a "," (comma), except for the last line.

Information about the meaning of strings such as menu_main_cases may be found in the documentation about the translation system.

Also note that some concepts have changed since the beginning, for example, “users” were initially called “authors” (long story!), and “custom fields” used to be called “keywords”. You will probably still see references to these names in the translation string identifiers.
